Keeneland Rated #1 By Horseplayers Association of North America For Second Year in a Row
Lexington, KY (April 2, 2010) – The Horseplayers Association of North America (HANA) has ranked Keeneland first among 69 of the continent’s top racetracks in its Track Rating System.
HANA is a grassroots, not-for-profit group comprised of more than 1,500 horseplayers with a combined handle of more than $70 million annually.
“We were surprised to have won last year and thrilled to win again this year. I want to thank all the great people at Keeneland who make this possible,” said Keeneland President and CEO Nick Nicholson.
The HANA Track Ratings are based on an algorithm designed by HANA Board member Bill Weaver, a retired engineer from Houston, TX. A composite score is tabulated using studies and empirical data which are directly correlated to horseplayer value and handle growth, namely takeout rate, field size, wager variety, pool size, signal distribution.
“No takeout on any wager higher than 19%, average field size of 9.38, and pool sizes that give the player every opportunity to make a big score. When we looked at the raw numbers, hands down, Keeneland was North America's highest rated track,” said Jeff Platt, President of HANA. “What's not in the ratings though, is the incredible level of service and attention to detail given to HANA members by Keeneland's staff. Keeneland is at the top of the list for the second year in a row and that should come as no surprise to anybody.”
Keeneland ranked best in the variety of wagers category and take out percentage, and among the highest in field size and average daily handle. Keeneland is introducing a 50-cent Pick 3 this spring to go with its wagering menu that already includes a 50-cent Pick 4 and trifecta wagers, a 10-cent superfecta, and a $1 Super High Five.
Keeneland is a leader in employing innovative technology. This spring, horse players can see detailed weather information on Keeneland.com, including track temperature, wind direction, average wind speed, rain fall and ambient temperature—updated every 15 minutes on its scratches and changes webpage. It also offers Trakus race replay videos and a “PolyCapping” database on Keeneland.com, which provides handicappers with detailed information on every horse that has won a race at Keeneland since October 2006.
